Mississippi natives HeArt still beats for his home state

Even though fine art photographer Eric Stokley is now living in Atlanta his home is where his HeART is, Mississippi. He is a long time contributor to the Mississippi HeARTS Againt AIDS charity.

The 22nd Annual Mississippi HeARTS Benefit Dance and Auction will be held on Saturday, February 8th, 2014 at Hal & Mal's in Downtown Jackson, MS. (If you want additional information about this event visit their website at www.mississippihearts.org).

Stokleys' latest contribution for the auction is “Safe Harbor” an image of three fishing boats he captured on the East Coast of Rhode Island after a major storm passed through. Stokley was moved by the site of them sitting calmly anchored in an inlet harbor escaping the destruction that was all around them.  He said, “I have explored a many different avenues of photography but in the end, I am drawn to images that evoke an emotion.”

The HeARTS organization relies on contributors like Stokley to make this event, their primary source of funding, a success. Money raised helps those with HIV/AIDS live healthy, independent lives and is also used to educate people on the preventing the spread of HIV.

Stokley grew up in Waynesboro, Mississippi, received his A.A.S. Degree from Hinds Community College in Raymond and served as an instructor for his alma mater. He lived and worked for over 20 years in the Jackson area before moving to Atlanta.
